Combined heat and power is concurrent production of electricity and heating and/or cooling from a single energy source. New construction and major renovation project owners are increasingly looking at combined heat and power as a viable option to reduce energy use and increase resilience.

This month’s presenter is Marcia Karr from Washington State University’s Extension Energy Program. The Extension Energy Program manages the Northwest Combined Heat and Power Technical Assistance Partnerships, one of seven partnerships established by the U.S. Department of Energy to promote and help transform the market for combined heat and power, waste heat recovery and district energy systems throughout the United States. Karr’s presentation will highlight the value of combined heat and power to project owners, outline available tools and resources enabling engineers to quickly assess the value of combined heat and power at a specific site, and feature a case study.
