Revised Residential central AC requirements – effective October 1, 2019

Energy Trust has revised performance requirements in an effort to increase the eligibility for central air conditioning systems added to existing furnaces/air handlers. Effective October 1, 2019, the central AC outdoor unit must meet or exceed a nominal rating of 15 SEER, based on manufacturer-stated ratings.

This is a shift from the previous requirement that 15 SEER be confirmed through system ratings stated in the AHRI directory. This revision does not impact the EER rating requirement. Central AC systems must meet or exceed a performance rating of 12 EER, as stated in the AHRI directory. This rating can be achieved with or without a specified furnace/blower.

For a list of known central AC outdoor units which meet or exceed the 15 SEER nominal rating, please see the Central AC outdoor unit qualified products list.
