Portland home energy scoring adopted

The City of Portland recently adopted a policy to require home energy scores on single-family homes at the time of sale. The new policy takes effect on January 1, 2018.

Home energy scores convey information about energy use and associated costs, helping homebuyers, sellers and owners make informed decisions about energy-efficiency improvements.

The City of Portland’s new policy requires sellers of single-family homes to:

  1. Obtain a home energy performance report that includes a home energy score
  2. Disclose the information from the report to the City of Portland at the time of sale or before the home is publically listed on the market.
