Energy Trust recently introduced a new incentive for mini-split air conditioners for use in server closets only. Mini-split air conditioners are an energy-efficient, simple solution to allow a server closet to:
- Give each server closet its own dedicated cooling system
- Place the indoor air handler within the server closet
- Locate the condensing unit outside of the building
Because cooling needs in these spaces remain fairly constant during all hours of the year, there is a high potential of savings when high-efficiency units are selected.
The incentive is $200 per ton for qualifying projects that meet the following criteria:
- Seasonal energy-efficiency ratio, SEER, 18 or greater
- No more than two condensing units per closet
- Maximum four tons per condensing unit
- Units must serve a space in a commercial building (based on Energy Trust sorting rules) used exclusively for servers and other data equipment
Equipment | Requirements | Estimated average savings | Unit incentive |
---|---|---|---|
Mini-split air conditioner | SEER 18 or greater; 4 ton Maximum*; No more than two condensing units per server closet | 1,123 kWh per ton | $200 per ton |
*1 ton = 12,000 Btu/h
Incentives are available for units purchased on or after May 1, 2015. Units purchased prior to that date are not eligible for the incentive. No pre-approval is needed. A post-installation verification may apply. Incentives are subject to funding availability and may change. Additional requirements may apply.
