New service room incentive

Energy Trust recently introduced a new incentive for mini-split air conditioners for use in server closets only. Mini-split air conditioners are an energy-efficient, simple solution to allow a server closet to:

  • Give each server closet its own dedicated cooling system
  • Place the indoor air handler within the server closet
  • Locate the condensing unit outside of the building

Because cooling needs in these spaces remain fairly constant during all hours of the year, there is a high potential of savings when high-efficiency units are selected.

The incentive is $200 per ton for qualifying projects that meet the following criteria:

  • Seasonal energy-efficiency ratio, SEER, 18 or greater
  • No more than two condensing units per closet
  • Maximum four tons per condensing unit
  • Units must serve a space in a commercial building (based on Energy Trust sorting rules) used exclusively for servers and other data equipment

Incentives are available for units purchased on or after May 1, 2015. Units purchased prior to that date are not eligible for the incentive. No pre-approval is needed. A post-installation verification may apply. Incentives are subject to funding availability and may change. Additional requirements may apply.
