Clean air filters and coils are essential for HVAC equipment efficiency

Maintaining clean air filters and coils keeps HVAC equipment running smoothly and efficiently. Ensuring customers are aware of the best maintenance practices for their equipment is key in developing credibility and guaranteeing customer satisfaction.

With ducted HVAC systems, a rule of thumb is to check the air filter once a month to prevent any damage to the equipment. Replacements are generally recommended every 1-6 months depending on use.

With ductless mini-split systems, manufacturers suggest cleaning the reusable filter once every two weeks to ensure maximum efficiency. Routine cleaning can be a done with a vacuum cleaner or brush. Heavily soiled filters can be cleaned with warm soapy water and left to air dry. The secondary filter should be replaced every 1-3 years.

Coil cleanings are recommended 1-2 times per year. Follow the manufacturers guidelines when using coil cleaning solutions, which often contain corrosive chemicals. Applying improper cleaning solutions and techniques can cause premature damage to the equipment and reduce efficiency. Cleaning solutions are designed for either indoor or outdoor use. Applying the wrong product can be potentially dangerous to both customers and service technicians.

Overall, proper and routine maintenance of HVAC equipment is fundamental to maintaining energy efficiency and equipment life.
