The Oregon Department of Energy is experiencing delays of up to 10 weeks in processing Residential Energy Tax Credit (RETC) certificates due to the high volume of applications. As a reminder, once the eligible system is operational and the application is complete and signed by the homeowner, the Oregon Department of Energy will process the project to create the tax credit certificate to the homeowner. The tax credit certificate is necessary for homeowners to include the tax credit in their income tax filing for 2017.
Due to the processing delays, we encourage customers to contact their tax advisor and the Oregon Department of Revenue to discuss whether it may be appropriate to file for an extension to their 2017 taxes or amend their 2017 tax returns in order to apply the Residential Energy Tax Credit to their 2017 taxes.
