Updates to the 2018 Home Retrofit Specifications Manual are as follows:
Heat Pump Controls
- An eligible thermostat with electronic controls shall be installed to lock out supplemental/auxiliary electric furnace heat based on outdoor air temperature. The outdoor air temperature shall be determined either by a locally installed outdoor temperature sensor or by online weather data. If the heat pump control utilizes online weather data, the unit shall be configured to connect to the home’s internet access point. The unit shall be installed in accordance with program guidelines, the manufacturer’s recommendations, and requirements as listed in program information sheet PI320I. External temperature sensors, if applicable, shall be installed according to the manufacturer’s recommendations.
- The use of manual auxiliary heat lockout kits does not meet Energy Trust requirements. Visit http://www.energytrust.org/heatpumpcontrols for eligible models and more information.
- Heat Pump Controls Complete Measure Checklist is provided.
Lockout Temperature
- The heat pump control shall have the ability to lock out supplemental/auxiliary electric furnace heat at 35°F. The lockout temperature shall be set at 35°F. If the lockout must be set to a temperature other than 35°F due to sizing or other system limitations, it shall be within 5 degrees (plus or minus) of 35°F. If a qualifying heat pump control does not have the capability of locking out supplemental/auxiliary electric furnace heat at a specific temperature, then it shall be set to the operational mode that minimizes the use of supplemental/auxiliary electric furnace heat in controlling indoor air temperature.
Gas Tankless Water Heaters
- Intake air for all sealed combustion tankless water heater shall come from outside the conditioned space.
- For more requirements, see program information sheet PI320I-WA.
