Permitting best practices for solar

Northwest Solar Communities is a coalition of jurisdictions, utilities, solar industry partners and citizen groups working to reduce the soft costs of solar installations under the U.S. Department of Energy’s Sunshot Initiative. The coalition recently published an Oregon Solar Electric Permitting Packet that highlights best practices from various jurisdictions across the state.

In jurisdictions less experienced with processing solar permit applications, the packet can serve as an outline and an educational resource about the Oregon Installation Specialty Code. This packet also provides examples of best practices employed in other Oregon jurisdictions to help address any specific questions on how to implement the code.

Trade ally contractors working in Washington will be interested in the recent changes to the state’s building code for solar installations. The changes are highlighted in the Washington Solar Electric Permitting Packet.
