Luminaire level lighting controls bring flexibility and additional energy savings to projects

Energy Trust business lighting incentives are designed to encourage the use of luminaire level lighting controls (LLLCs), along with efficient fixtures and lamps, adding more control of light levels, and enhancing energy savings.

LLLCs are installed within fixtures enabling multiple control strategies. Fixtures are most often wirelessly networked and can be controlled individually or in groups. With multiple options available on each fixture, you can design lighting systems to meet your customer’s specific needs and goals. LLLCs are found in virtually any fixture type, but are most common in troffers, high bays, recessed and linear fixtures, along with exterior area lighting. The most prevalent LLLC control strategies include:

  • Occupancy sensing
  • Daylight harvesting
  • High-end trim
  • Scheduling
  • Personal tuning
  • Integration with existing building management systems

Energy Trust offers higher incentives for LLLC controlled fixtures which usually offset any additional cost. Lifetime energy cost savings are further increased since implementing these control strategies extends fixture life. Installation is simple: Just run power to the fixtures as you normally would, then add wireless wall controls that communicate directly with the luminaires. No separate control wires are needed. Commissioning is done through simple smartphone apps, and local manufacturer representatives are often willing to assist trade allies in this process.

The specification of LLLCs enhances your customer upgrade proposals, which can result in winning more projects. You can mitigate call-backs through on-site changes to fixture performance after installation. By adding LLLCs, you can increase employee comfort, satisfaction and performance by adjusting light levels, and often color temperatures, based on user preferences, common tasks and occupancy patterns. LLLCs are also ideal for accommodating future changes to space layouts, personnel and tasks, thus future-proofing spaces, which adds value for both tenants and owners.

Lighting systems should always perform their intended tasks, and with networked controls you can more easily achieve that goal. The proper amount of light, delivered when needed and in the most efficient way, is at the heart of Energy Trust’s business lighting efforts.

By including luminaire level lighting controls, you can differentiate your company from others and create a competitive advantage by providing flexible and higher performance lighting systems.
