February Building Energy Simulation Forum: The Bullitt Center in Review

In 2013, the Bullitt Center opened in Seattle, Washington as the world’s largest certified Living Building Challenge commercial building. To meet Living Building Challenge requirements, it was designed to achieve net-zero energy use with high-efficiency features such as passive cooling, natural ventilation, thermal massing and other HVAC solutions. At the Building Energy Simulation Forum on February 15, mechanical engineer Ben Burnett will discuss the building’s energy modeling approach and compare modeled energy use to actual performance data collected over the building’s first three years of operation. In light of recent enhancements to energy modeling tools, alternatives to the modeling approach will be discussed, as well as lessons learned.
