Simplicity of controlling your lighting—the power of apps in configuration

As lighting technology has matured, newer control systems have become both simpler and more reliable compared to earlier systems. Installers and customers alike can now easily interface with most control systems using their smartphone, as settings can be commissioned via mobile apps. Improvements like this reduce the chances of customer frustration and callbacks to sites. Below is a short description of what can be achieved by going through a mobile app.

Advanced controls, such as luminaire-level lighting controls (LLLCs), offer a simple way to control space lighting, which greatly improves lighting performance and customer comfort. Properly commissioning LLLCs also unlocks higher incentives from Energy Trust of Oregon. Manufacturers’ app-based configuration tools create simplicity in the commissioning process, such as:

  • Ease of configuration in lighting and controls design
    • Simply install the measures, configure them using the app and you are done!
  • Establishing vacancy or occupancy operation, daylighting, high-end trim levels and even connection to a building automation system, if desired
    • DesignLights Consortium (DLC) has a concise resource outlining these key controls strategies: DLC Controls Best Practices
  • Grouping fixtures by space type, such as hallways, conference rooms and individual offices
  • Customizing lighting scenes or events to fit customer needs and desires
  • Setting different permission levels for specific profiles within the customer’s organization, allowing specific controls settings to be adjusted only by a specified profile
  • Providing a flexible approach for the customer in case future changes necessitate different controls setup

Energy Trust and its Trade Ally Network work hard to create value in our projects. With the combination of advanced lighting controls and simplified app-based commissioning, our customers can attain both increased incentives and  improved lighting quality, leading to a positive experience. Programming lighting controls has never been simpler!
