Call for Net Zero Fellowship Grant Applications + New Research Learning Opportunities

Energy Trust is proud to support the innovative people who make net-zero buildings possible, from current industry professionals to the leaders of tomorrow. Through fellowship grants, we support research that advances net-zero design and construction, addresses potential barriers and helps grow community involvement.

The Net Zero Fellowship awards up to two grants, not exceeding $60,000 each, for a 12-month research project that advances the adoption of net-zero design and construction in Oregon and/or Washington. We are now seeking applications through June 2, 2023.

Individuals or firms in the fields of community development, urban planning, architecture, engineering, construction, facility management, public policy or academia are encouraged to apply. Energy Trust supports topics that examine multiple facets of net-zero design and construction, especially around how building professionals make decisions and how communities benefit.

Submit your application by June 2, 2023.

New research available
Our most recent Net Zero Fellow, Jessy Ledesma, and her team, studied the potential to move toward a path to net zero approach for workforce affordable housing by centralizing mechanical and hot water systems, clustering units and optimizing multifamily development scale for solar microgrids. The research analysis focused on the Milwaukie Courtyard Housing Project, which seeks to prototype cottage cluster housing at an infill scale, utilizing mass plywood panels and solar microgrids to meet community energy, affordability and resilience goals.

On-demand training
In addition to the fellowship grant, Energy Trust offers free on-demand training on cutting-edge research by our Net Zero Fellows, Katy Anderson, and Jean von Bargen Root. Topics include removing barriers to net-zero commercial and industrial development and increasing the industry’s knowledge of cost drivers associated with net-zero multifamily new construction. The online format allows you to learn at your own pace and access training when and where it’s convenient for you. Upon finishing each training, you will have the option to receive a certificate of completion and professional continuing education credits (CEUs).
