Community Energy Project has been a longtime partner of Energy Trust of Oregon. The Portland-based organization provides free home services focused on safety, health and energy efficiency to low-income communities.
Two homeowners who worked with Community Energy Project shared how these upgrades impacted their lives.
“Since 2008, when I bought my one and a half story house in South Tabor, I had lived with oil heat and only a little insulation in the attic. Mornings were cold even in summer, and the heater blew fall to spring. Along with the expense of the oil and a window AC in the attic where I slept on the hottest nights, I knew my energy sources weren’t doing climate change any good, either. But I also could not afford an alternative.
That all changed when I got approved for a ducted heat pump, insulation, a heat pump water heater and several other needed upgrades. The improvements are life-changing for me. Also, it feels so much better to be contributing so positively to the environment.
From the start, everyone involved was so great to me and my home. They were all so warm and friendly, respectful, professional, responsive, timely, knowledgeable and clear and complete with explanations. And fun. I felt relaxed with all the work because I knew I was in good hands.

“I’ve lived on this block for the past 15 years, and we’ve been in this house since 2020. We have three generations living in the home. Before Community Energy Project, we didn’t have air conditioning and [appropriate levels of] insulation. Since Community Energy Project’s work, my daughter’s asthma has dissipated completely when she’s at home. I also feel more comfortable with the quality of the air, especially with the new baby. Fragile little lungs, you know? I just want to thank everyone who worked on this for their time and effort. It has been a blessing. I didn’t believe things like this could happen.”
