Reminder: Submit Landlord Provided Cooling Spaces projects by September 30

Multifamily properties without in-unit cooling can still offer relief for residents during hot weather—and earn incentives for doing it. Energy Trust’s Landlord Provided Cooling Spaces initiative offers incentives that can cover up to 100% of the cost of creating a shared, air-conditioned space within a qualifying property.

These shared cooling spaces help protect residents during extreme heat events while avoiding the cost and complexity of installing in-unit cooling. To qualify, projects must meet the following guidelines:

  • The building must have five or more units and no in-unit air conditioning
  • The space must be centrally located and accessible to all residents
  • The space must be available year-round, not just seasonally
  • The upgrade must result in added cooling capacity, not simply replace existing cooling equipment
  • New equipment must meet Energy Trust efficiency requirements
  • Projects must be submitted by September 30, 2025

Trade allies play a key role in helping property owners implement these upgrades and take advantage of available incentives.
