Best practices for adjustable wattage fixture and high-end trim

To better align incentives with claimed energy savings, Energy Trust’s Business Lighting team is updating requirements for entering adjustable wattage fixtures and LLLCs with high-end trim into the Lighting Tool. Trade allies are expected to implement these changes for all projects submitted on or after July 15, 2024.

Adjustable Wattage Fixtures

Energy Trust currently allows adjustable wattage fixtures to be entered in the Lighting Tool up to the highest wattage setting.

Starting July 15, 2024, adjustable wattage fixtures must be entered at the installed wattage. To correctly input adjustable wattage fixtures, select the product type that matches the adjustable output on the equipment type tab. The incentive will be calculated based on the installed wattage. The program will check adjustable wattage fixtures during project reviews to ensure the installed wattage is selected and the incentive is calculated correctly.

High-End Trim

Also starting July 15, 2024, the program will require fixtures utilizing high-end trim to be set no lower than 80% of full output in the Equipment Type tab. If a fixture requires a setting lower than 80%, this indicates that a different fixture should be selected to better align with the customer’s expectations. Energy Trust will review high-end trim to ensure settings are no lower than 80% of full output and may request an updated Lighting Tool if necessary.

Once again, these changes will apply to all projects submitted on or after July 15, 2024.
