It isn’t always clear whether a customer or site should receive a residential or commercial solar or storage incentive. When evaluating a site, trade allies should consider:
- Who owns the site?
- Will the solar+storage system be a business asset?
- How is the site metered and how is the solar + storage system interconnected?
- Does the system primarily serve commercial or residential energy use?
Below we’ve outlined some common site examples and their respective incentive pathways:
- Residential site owned by property management company = Residential
- Individually metered townhomes = Residential
- Shop building sharing meter with residential dwelling = Residential
- Individually metered shop where solar will be a business asset = Commercial
- Home business operating within a dwelling = Residential
- Case could be made for commercial. Reach out to Solar team for assistance.
We encourage trade allies to reach out to their account manager or solar@energytrust.org if they have a question about whether they should apply for a commercial or residential incentive.
