Introducing BPS Pathway for the New Building Performance Standard in Oregon

Oregon’s new Building Performance Standards, or BPS, are in place and many building owners are starting to ask what this means for them. In short, BPS will require certain buildings to track, report and reduce energy use over time. For many customers, preparation can’t wait. With reporting beginning in 2028 and a full year of benchmarking required, buildings need to start well before 2028 to stay on track.

The good news is, Energy Trust is offering support designed to help customers reduce energy use and get ahead of future BPS requirements. The BPS Pathway offer can help building owners understand where energy is being used, identify improvement opportunities and take action before compliance deadlines arrive. Energy Trust is currently recruiting for the first cohort, which will launch in March 2026.

Why this matters for trade allies

  • The BPS Pathway can help customers identify and prioritize upgrade opportunities, leading to additional projects
  • Customers will be looking for guidance as BPS deadlines get closer
  • Energy efficiency upgrades can play a major role in helping buildings meeting performance targets
  • Early planning can reduce risk, cost and last-minute scrambling

Thank you to the trade allies who participated in our BPS training series in November. We will share a summary of key takeaways soon.

Please watch for an invitation to our next BPS training series beginning in February. More details and dates will be shared soon.

Staying engaged now will help you be ready as more customers start asking questions and looking for support.
