Umpqua Sheet Metal helps turn boiler headaches into year-round comfort

Umpqua Homes, Inc. (UHI), a Douglas County nonprofit, provides residential group homes and community-centered care for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. When the aging 1980s-era boiler system in their Roseburg headquarters began to fail, staff were battling constant temperature swings, high maintenance needs and no replacement parts.

That’s when UHI’s longtime HVAC partner and Energy Trust trade ally, Umpqua Sheet Metal, stepped in. They recommended replacing the outdated system with energy-efficient ductless heat pumps and rooftop units. With $23,400 in cash incentives from Energy Trust, and estimated annual savings of $17,200, the upgrade delivered consistent comfort, reduced maintenance and put a big dent in operating costs.

“Energy Trust made it easy,” said CEO Natasha Atkinson. “Our Trade Ally walked us through everything, and now our energy bills are basically covered by rent from our next-door tenants.”

The project also supports UHI’s broader sustainability goals, from reducing waste to improving comfort for staff and tenants.
