Changes to the Residential Clean Energy Tax Credit

With the 2025 federal tax and spending law bringing an end to the Residential Clean Energy Credit on December 31, 2025, we want to assure trade allies that Energy Trust’s incentive funding remains secure. Energy Trust’s renewable energy programs and incentives are funded by Oregon utility customers, and this funding is secure until 2035.

Current guidance from the Solar Energy Industries Association states that systems must be installed on or before December 31, 2025 to receive the Residential Clean Energy Tax Credit. When engaging with customers, please ensure that information regarding the federal tax credit changes is presented in an accurate and informative way, and does not place undue pressure on customers to take immediate action. It is also important to set realistic expectations about project timelines and discuss plans if unforeseen delays extend a project into 2026. Please do not overcommit the number of projects that can be completed in 2025

Please reach out to Energy Trust to pause leads if your schedule is fully committed through the end of the year. We can reactivate leads for 2026 projects at a later date. Please let us know if you are unable to serve leads provided by Energy Trust. Do not send Energy Trust leads to other trade allies

Energy Trust staff are evaluating what changes will be needed to our programs, processes and incentives in 2025 and 2026 so we can continue supporting customers and contractors in the best ways possible. We will inform trade allies of any relevant changes as needed.

Also please note that Energy Trust cannot offer tax advice. Customers should consult a tax advisor or the U.S. Department of Energy for specific information about federal tax credits.

Please reach out to Energy Trust’s Solar team at solar@energytrust.org with any questions.
