The International Organization for Standardization, ISO, has developed an International Standard, ISO 50001, that specifies the requirements for an energy management system that allows a facility operator to develop and implement a comprehensive energy policy. Facility operators establish energy savings objectives, set energy savings targets and develop action plans to achieve them. The development of an ISO 50001-compliant energy management system enables facility operators to improve their energy performance while assuring compliance with demonstrable reductions.
