SUMMARY:Advanced lighting controls workshop for design and building professionals
DESCRIPTION:Advanced lighting controls offer the opportunity to balance the visual environment\, enhance space flexibility and improve occupant satisfaction while saving significant amounts of energy and improving maintenance cycles. Designing and implementing these high-quality control systems can also help differentiate contractors and designers from competitors. \nIn this free one-day\, hands-on workshop\, brought to you by Northwest Energy Efficiency Alliance (NEEA) and Energy Trust of Oregon\, participants will learn industry best practices and strategies before tackling an example project. This comprehensive workshop\, offered through Lighting Design Lab\, will introduce participants to modern lighting control strategies and equipment with instruction on how to effectively implement them in various projects. The workshop will cover system design\, installation\, sequence of operations and startup. Training participants will then apply these best practices to design demonstration systems and program the controls hardware of two industry leading manufacturers. \n  \nPresenter: \nShaun Darragh\, senior lighting specialist\, Lighting Design Lab \nShaun Darragh has enjoyed more than 30 years in the lighting industry as an award-winning architectural lighting designer\, design instructor\, daylighting and sustainability specialist\, lighting control system consultant\, and theatrical designer. Prior to rejoining the Lighting Design Lab in 2017\, he led several lighting design studios—most recently Luma Lighting Design in Seattle. \n  \nShaun has a long background of teaching and consulting on sustainability issues\, human factors\, lighting\, daylighting and lighting controls. He recently developed and implemented a comprehensive education curriculum for the Lighting Design Lab and serves as an instructor for the University of Washington College of the Built Environments. \n

SUMMARY:Energy Trust Net Zero Emerging Leaders
DESCRIPTION:Get to know some of Oregon’s next generation of architects leading the way to a net-zero energy future. \nEnergy Trust of Oregon supports students with a passion for net zero. These future leaders are on a mission to design buildings that produce as much energy as they consume. Meet the students from Energy Trust’s Net Zero Emerging Leaders internship grant and hear their stories during this special panel. \nThe Net Zero Emerging Leaders grant is given to Oregon architecture firms to employ students for a 12-week internship. The interns support each firm’s AIA 2030 Commitment—an industry pledge to transform architectural standards toward carbon neutral buildings. \nThe panel will share their personal experiences learning about sustainable design and discuss how the internship prepared them to enter the workforce inspired and ready to design the buildings of the future. \nJoin us to support these emerging leaders and let’s get inspired together. \n  \nPanelists:\nMatt Loudermilk\, Carleton Hart Architecture\nMadelaine Murray\, Hennebery Eddy Architects\nLindsey Naganuma\, Holst\nJessica Meylor\, Otak\nAustin Daich\, Speranza Architecture + Urban Design\n
