SUMMARY:Appraising Energy Efficient Homes
DESCRIPTION:Gain competency and make well-supported and accurate valuation decisions.\nAttend this free 7-hour CE training provided by Energy Trust of Oregon and Earth Advantage and gain a wealth of appraisal expertise\, including principles and practices that distinguish energy efficient homes from traditional code constructed homes\, methods for appraising these high performance homes\, and approaches to solar PV valuation. \nDid you know the secondary mortgage market (Fannie\, Freddie\, and FHA) and Appraisal Foundation guidelines require “competency” in this topic area prior to accepting an assignment on an energy efficient home? Take this course and become one of the appraisers in your area that lenders can turn to who meet this standard. \nThis course is intended to provide appraisers with the information and resources needed to make well-supported and accurate valuation decisions for high performance properties. It will provide an overview of the most current data available for the valuation of energy efficient homes\, and then present the cost approach as it applies to these properties. Participants will then perform an in-depth analysis of the sales comparison approach and other valuation techniques that can be applied to high performance homes. The approaches to value covered by this course are not exclusively related to high performance properties and will also help broaden your tool kit for conventional appraisal assignments. \nBy taking this course\, you will…\n\nGain the data/tools needed to apply adjustments to appraisal assignments using different approaches to value\nUnderstand recent housing market forces and the latest valuation studies and how they affect appraisers\nLearn how EPS-rated homes provide energy efficiency data to appraisers\, as well as healthier\, more durable\, and more comfortable homes to consumers\nLearn about appraisal addendums developed by Earth Advantage and Appraisal Institute and the different benefits/uses of each\n\nBackground\nThe Appraising Energy Efficient Homes course has been approved to provide 7 CEs for OR appraisers and has been recommended as qualifying green home valuation education by the Appraisal Foundation and the Oregon Appraiser Certification & Licensure Board (ACLB). This 1-day course was developed by Taylor Watkins\, a Subject Matter Expert (SME) on high performance home valuation committees with the Appraisal Foundation\, and has been derived and updated based on the comprehensive 3-day green home appraisal designation program provided by Earth Advantage\, Accredited Green Appraiser (AGA). AGA has been offered live across California\, Maryland\, Massachusetts\, Virginia\, Washington and Alabama\, and an online course is currently under development. Visit the AGA course page and click the “Reviews” tab to view participant testimonials and course evaluation summaries. \nQuestions? Contact Heather Kendall at hkendall@earthadvantage.org or 503-968-7160 x20.

SUMMARY:High Performance Design Training: Daylighting Strategies\, LED Technologies\, and Controls for Efficient\, Healthy\, and Sustainable Buildings
DESCRIPTION:According to the U.S. Department of Energy\, electric lighting accounts for nearly 40 percent of all the energy consumed in U.S. commercial buildings. In addition\, high performance lighting design is critical to occupant comfort\, productivity\, and health. This six-hour course offers an overview of the latest tools and simulation techniques used to properly size and predict lighting performance. \nThe course will detail the benefits of good lighting design and a new approach to the lighting design process. It will introduce the latest research of electric lighting technologies and controls designed to meet the lighting needs of commercial buildings. \nThe course includes: \n\nHands-on applications of lighting design process.\nDemonstrations on lighting controls advancements.\nOverview of procedures to conduct on-site lighting audits that will introduce participants to advanced knowledge of building retrofits and integrated design for creating energy-efficient buildings of the 21st\n\nCourse Learning Objectives: \nUpon completion of this course\, participants will be able to: \n\nApply a new lighting design process that positively impacts energy savings and human health.\nEvaluate various space forms and orientations for optimal daylighting potential and the proper sizing of daylighting systems.\nCompare competing designs to determine the most effective approach to daylighting and electric lighting systems integration and retrofits.\nIdentify different lighting controls systems and their various requirements and applications.\nAssess and evaluate existing lighting systems for their compatibility with new lighting technologies retrofits\, as well as conduct a full lighting audit and verification for LEED v.4 credits.\n\nLunch will be provided. \nAbout the presenters: \nIhab Elzeyadi\, PHD\, FEIA\, LEEDAP is a professor of architecture and lighting design. He directs the High Performance Environments laboratory (HiPE) at the Department of Architecture\, University of Oregon. Dr. Elzeyadi has been engaged in the design\, construction\, and research of high-performance buildings for more than 25 years. With special focus on daylighting and electric lighting technologies\, Elzeyadi has contributed consulting and design assistance services for more than 3 Million sf. of commercial buildings and over 55 LEED™ and LBC rated buildings. He is the past-president of the Society of Building Science Educators (SBSE)\, a member of the Illumination Engineering Society (IES)\, American Society of Heating Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE)\, as well as various corporate advisory boards. \nDixon Soracco\, LC\, is specification leader for lighting controls at Harry L Stearns\, Inc. representing a broad portfolio of the world’s leading lighting brands\, offering innovative\, quality products to meet customers’ needs for interior lighting\, exterior lighting\, and lighting controls.
